Piedmont International University (PIU) is excited to welcome Dr. Shannon Warden to the Bruin family. Dr. Warden will be bringing her knowledge and expertise in the field of counseling as a professor and innovator of the Graduate Counseling Program here at Piedmont.
If her name sounds familiar, that might be because you have heard of the new book, Dr. Warden co-authors with her mentor Dr. Gary Chapman titled, The DIY Guide to Building A Family That Lasts. Along with her many years of experience in professional counseling, speaking, and writing, Dr. Warden has a long list of credentials. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPCS) in North Carolina and has counseled hundreds of couples, families, and children since graduating with her master’s degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University in 1998. In 2009 Dr. Warden completed her doctoral studies in Counseling and Counselor Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Since then, she has taken her experience and knowledge to the classroom to train up-and-coming counselors on campuses like Gardner-Webb University (2010-2013), and most recently, Wake Forest University (2013-2019).
Dr. Warden has joined the faculty of Piedmont International University and will be leading the development of a graduate-level counseling program with specialties in Marriage and Family Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. A launch date for the program is not yet defined, and so for now, potential students are welcome to inquire about the future program but cannot yet apply.
Dr. Shannon Warden offers her excitement on the future of this Master level program saying:
“I am so excited about the future of graduate-level counseling at Piedmont. We are committed to building a program worthy of CACREP accreditation such that students receive high-quality clinical training and are employable in a wide range of clinical settings. Additionally, we will encourage and equip students through a Christian worldview so that they can successfully integrate their clinical skills and Christian faith.”
Not only is Dr. Warden an accomplished woman, but her role extends far beyond her academic achievements and career successes. She prides herself on being a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a neighbor, a church member, and a volunteer. Her love for the Lord is evident in the way she loves and treats others.
In her faith statement, Dr. Warden declares the great love of her Heavenly Father saying:
“As I get older, I see more clearly in these and in other ways, just how much God loves you and me. He loves us so much He has even given us free will to choose or reject Him. In light of all He has done for me, I choose Him!”
Because PIU is a faith-based university grounded in the Word of God and seeking to equip our students with the necessary tools to spread the Gospel in every arena, we are excited for the future of our counseling program thanks to Dr. Shannon Warden. She is sure to bring a fresh perspective and an effective program that will prepare students to go out into the world and help many.
